Stoke City could be about to face an uphill battle to keep Tyrese Campbell at the club if recent reports are anything to go by.

According to Football Insider, Rangers are thought to be interested in the Potters forward with Celtic also reportedly keeping tabs on him ahead of the January transfer window.

Since emerging from Stoke's youth academy last year, Campbell has made 26 appearances for the club at senior level in which he has scored three goals.

However, with his current deal with the Potters set to expire next summer, the 19-year-old has yet to agree fresh terms at the bet365 Stadium.

Here, in our latest six-pointer article, we assess whether Stoke can afford to let Campbell leave next month and look at whether a move to Scotland would be beneficial for the forward's career.

Firstly, how has Campbell performed during the 2019/20 campaign for the Potters?

"Since returning to Stoke following a successful loan spell at Shrewsbury Town in the summer, Campbell has only managed to show glimpses of his talent this season.

"Although the forward was particularly impressive during the club's victories over the likes of Fulham and Leeds United, a lack of consistency has limited the progress that he has been able to make in terms of his development."

Why are Rangers and Celtic interested in the forward?

"Prolific at youth level for Stoke, Campbell unquestionably has the potential to become a quality operator in the future and thus it is not at all surprising that Rangers and Celtic are interested in him.

"With both sides looking to win the Scottish Premiership this season, it could be argued that they both need to bolster their attacking options in order to achieve this goal.

"Therefore, a move by either club for Campbell could result in them gaining a foothold in the battle for the title providing that the teenager is able to hit the ground running in Scotland."

Could Campbell end up thriving in Scottish Premiership?

"Although Campbell is still relatively inexperienced, there is no reason why he cannot end up thriving north of the border for Celtic or Rangers.

"Given that Neil Lennon and Steven Gerrard have both shown a willingness for their respective sides to play open, expansive football, the England Under-20 international could slot in to these particular set-ups."

Would it be a mistake by Stoke to let the forward leave next month?

"It could be a grave error by Stoke if they allow one of their most exciting young talents leave the bet365 Stadium next month.

"Whilst Campbell has yet to set the Championship alight during his fledgling career, he could potentially become a fantastic player at this level under the guidance of Michael O'Neill who has a rich history of getting the best out of players."

Should the Potters offer Campbell a new deal as soon as possible?

"The Potters should be doing everything in their power to convince Campbell to stay at the club.

"Currently in the Championship relegation zone, Stoke will need all of their players to step up to the mark over the coming months if they are to stay up.

"Therefore, by tying Campbell down to a new deal as soon as possible, the Potters could potentially reap the benefits of the forward's presence providing that he is able to make improvements to his consistency."

Could the forward play a key role in Stoke's battle for survival during the remainder of the season?

"If Campbell starts to deliver the goods on a weekly basis for the Potters, he may end up playing a key role in helping the club preserve their second-tier status.

"Blessed with a wide array of skills, the forward could emerge as a regular starter under O'Neill which will in turn do wonders for his development."
