With the start of the 2022/23 Championship season just days away, the future of Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz remains up in the air.

Football League World has exclusively revealed today that Sevilla remain keen on the 23-year-old but are not willing to stretch to Rovers' £25 million valuation – with their offer around £10 million plus add-ons.

Leeds United and West Ham United have also been touted with an interest in the forward, who is now in the final year of his contract at Ewood Park.

As of yet, it seems as though Jon Dahl Tomasson will have Brereton Diaz to call upon for the season opener against QPR on Saturday but beyond that the North West club will likely have a decision to make about his future.

FLW Blackburn Fan Pundit Toby Wilding has suggested that the action Rovers take concerning the potential sale of their star striker should depend on one thing.

He explained: "For me, it all depends on whether or not he's going to sign a new contract with the club.

"Obviously, if he does put pen to paper on a new deal then it would make no sense whatsoever to let him go given how good he has been last season but I think if he's not going to sign a new contract then it would certainly make sense in my eyes to let Ben Brereton Diaz go this summer.

"I think now that he's into the final year of his current deal this is obviously the last chance to receive a fee for him and I think of a player of his quality and importance it would be an even bigger blow to let him go for next to nothing next summer.

"The other issue with that is of course the fact that if you sell him now it does open up a lot more possibilities for Rovers in terms of the rest of the transfer window and the funds that they would have available to reinvest, which could be hugely important for the club given how many new players it still looks like they need to bring in.

"As I say, it's all down to a contract in my eyes. If he signs it, keep him, and if he doesn't, I think it's better to get him go now rather than drag this out for another year and potentially lose him for very little."
