Sunderland have enjoyed a great start to life in League One and the dark cloud that had been hanging over the club for the past few seasons seems to have well and truly lifted. 

This is largely down to what was a big summer of change for the Black Cats.

New owners arrived and with them a fresh mentality. They brought in young, promising manager Jack Ross who immediately set about reshaping a squad synonymous with failure.

Chris Maguire, Dylan McGeouch, John McLaughlin, Jack Baldwin, Glenn Loovens and Max Power were all among those to arrive and have all had a big impact on the season so far.

But one of the club's standout performers has been a member of the old guard.

Lee Cattermole has been a crucial cog in the Sunderland machine in midfield and is one of the rare survivors from that horrendous spell.

He completed a one-match suspension against Peterborough United in midweek and returns this weekend.

So when the club asked if he should come straight back into the starting XI, the response was emphatic...
