Middlesbrough’s struggles in the Sky Bet Championship are continuing, with the pressure seemingly growing on Garry Monk at the Riverside Stadium, with the club’s manager failing to deliver on his promises, according to The Northern Echo.

Monk spent over £40m during the summer transfer window reshaping his Middlesbrough squad, with many expecting to see the Teessiders make an instant return to the Premier League.

@Oddschanger has now revealed the sensational slump Boro have suffered, with Monk’s side going from 15/8 to gain promotion during pre-season, to 6/1 following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Ashton Gate against Bristol City.

That defeat against Bristol was Boro’s third in four fixtures, which has seen Monk’s side fall from the top-six to ninth and a 14-point gap open up between them and second placed, Cardiff City.

Boro have 29 points from their opening 20 fixtures of the season, but have fallen six points behind sixth placed, Derby County.

Monk’s side take a break from Championship action during the week, but return to the Riverside Stadium on Saturday when they face Ipswich Town, before crucial away trips to Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday before Christmas.

The Verdict

This is a worry for Monk and Boro, particularly the gap between Boro and Cardiff in the second automatic promotion spot.

Boro were expected to compete for the title this season, and that was undoubtedly Monk’s aim after a busy summer of business.

Of course, Boro are still in contention for the top-six, but Monk has not delivered on his promises.
