According to Football Insider, Martin O'Neill is reportedly interested in making Stoke City winger James McClean his second signing as manager of Nottingham Forest.

The 66-year old has already added Leicester City defender Yohan Benalouane to his side, and is now looking to reunite with a familiar face in McClean - the pair are bound to know each other well from O'Neill's time with the Republic of Ireland national team.

The 29-year-old has failed to make the impact he would have liked to at Stoke City following his summer arrival from West Brom - the winger has scored one goal and produced six assists in 26 games for the Potters, and has been on the bench in Nathan Jones' first two games in charge of the club.

Here, we discuss whether McClean would be a good signing for Forest...

George Harbey

"Is this really what Nottingham Forest need?

"Forest already have a plethora of talented attacking options in their ranks, and it's probably their defence that needs the most work.

"It's a risky signing considering it hasn't really worked out at Stoke for the winger."

Jacob Potter

"This is an interesting potential deal.

"McClean has struggled to make a notable impact with Stoke, and could be tempted by a fresh start with Nottingham Forest this month.

"If he can find his feet early, then it would be a good bit of business, but surely there are better options out there for the Reds?"

Alfie Burns

"This is really interesting as he hasn’t impressed at all with Stoke.

"However, O’Neill knows McClean well and will be able to get the best out of him, I’m sure.

"If he gets his head down and works for the new Forest boss, not many will be against this."

Louie Chandler

"I don't think he is needed.

"I know O'Neill has a good track record of getting the best out of the winger but with the likes of Joe Lolley, Matty Cash, Ben Osborn and Gil Dias still on the books it seems like a waste.

"The last thing Forest want is to bring in a host of new faces again and cause even more disruption."
