Southampton striker Sam Gallagher has emerged as a loan transfer target for Aston Villa, according to The Birmingham Mail.

The Villans have been hit with a financial crisis this summer, meaning that they might need to sell a number of first-team players to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations, including strikers Scott Hogan, Jonathan Kodjia, Keinan Davis and Ross McCormack.

Aston Villa may be limited to loans and Steve Bruce is considering a temporary move for Gallagher.

The 22-year-old spent the 2016/17 season with Blackburn Rovers - scoring 12 goals - and last season with Villa's Second City rivals Birmingham City, where he netted seven times.

The former England under-21 international recently scored in Southampton's pre-season win over Jiangsu Suning but it is unclear whether he has a future with the south coast side.

Another loan spell could beckon with Aston Villa keen.

Here are eight things Aston Villa fans are saying about the Gallagher transfer rumours.
