Cardiff City fell short in the first Welsh derby of the season yesterday, losing 1-0 to Swansea City in the Championship.

Ben Wilmot’s first-half goal was enough to see Steve Cooper’s side take all the spoils in the Welsh derby yesterday.

He headed home to send Swansea fans into ecstasy at the Liberty Stadium, and it takes the Swans up to fourth in the table - two points off leaders West Brom.

For Cardiff though, they slip to 14th in the Championship and remain without an away win all season.

They were outclassed yesterday, and one man in particular failed to live up the occasion.

Robert Glatzel joined Cardiff in the summer from German Bundesliga 2 side Heidenheim for an undisclosed fee, but has so far struggled to adapt to live in English football.

He’s played in 11 of Cardiff’s league matches so far this season, and got off the mark in terms of goals in his side’s 1-1 draw at Derby County last month.

In his next game he scored again, a 2-2 draw away at Hull City.

It looked as though Glatzel was finally finding his feet in blue, but he went missing in yesterday’s game, and the time might be right for Warnock to bench him more often.

Warnock has been desperate for his marquee summer signing to hit the ground running - He’s shown great faith in Glatzel so far but the towering German hasn’t delivered yet.

His arrival in South Wales was highly anticipated by both his manager and fans, having scored 13 goals in 26 Bundesliga 2 appearances last season.

But he’s struggled to adapt to the Championship, and fans seem to be losing patience with the 25-year-old.

Cardiff are lacking an out-and-out goalscorer this season, and that showed yesterday.

Danny Ward looks like he might come good this season, having scored four goals in seven games since returning from injury last month.

With Ward firing it could spell the end of Glatzel's starting spot, and we could even see the likes of Omar Bogle and Lee Tomlin have an extended run in the squad, or even the exiled Gary Madine.

Warnock needs more goals in his team if their to finish in the top-half of the Championship this season - Glatzel is clearly a talented forward, but when and if he starts firing for Cardiff is as yet unknown.

They host Birmingham City in the Championship this weekend, and Glatzel could well find himself on the bench for this one.
