Peterborough might have found themselves to be rather lucky over the past couple of summers as they have managed to keep hold of Marcus Maddison, even though he has sparked a lot of interest from Championship clubs as well as boyhood club Sunderland.

Maddison is a versatile player and can play anywhere across the three in behind the striker, whether that be as a number 10 or playing on either flank. Marcus Maddison is by far Peterborough’s most creative player, over the years he has shined in a side who are constantly there or thereabouts in regards to the play-offs. Over the last five seasons, Maddison has got 67 assists and 40 goals, that’s an incredible 105 goal contributions. If Peterborough want to push on and finally break into the play-offs and achieve promotion back to the Championship, they need to keep Maddison fit and focused.

Away from Maddison’s goal contributions, the link up play with his team mates is phenomenal, with him predominantly playing in the number 10 role, he is the link from midfield to attack and he has two phenomenal forwards in front of him in Mo Eisa and Ivan Toney as well as protection in behind him in Louis Reed, it gives him the license to roam and create chances.

His link up with the two strikers showed in a game away at Southend last month in a 2-0 win, where Maddison got two assists, one for each striker. As well as being fantastic from open play, Maddison is a dead ball specialist, he has constantly got assists and goals rom free kick situations, putting balls into dangerous areas and giving his teammates something to attack.

Maddison also showed his class in a 6-0 thrashing of Rochdale, where Maddison picked up 2 goals and an assist, the assist being for front man Ivan Toney.

With Championship clubs constantly sniffing around Maddison, it will only be so long until Peterborough have to sell, Maddison is the key cog to everything that Peterborough do and losing him could end up derailing Peterborough completely and if they do not achieve promotion to the Championship this season and then Maddison leaves, they could end up staying as a mid table League One side for the next few years unless they replace him with somebody of similar quality but with the transfer market constantly changing.

To find somebody of Maddison’s quality for a reasonable fee for a League One side is near enough impossible because of how much Maddison offers to Peterborough so they will be hoping to keep a hold of him for the foreseeable future and hopefully achieve promotion back to the Championship.
