Middlesbrough continued their excellent form yesterday as they made it another home win by smashing three past a hapless Leeds United side at the Riverside last night, a result which put them right back in the hunt for the playoff places.

Boro were good value for the win and have begun to look good under manager Tony Pulis, and last night they had striker Patrick Bamford to thank, with the forward notching a lovely hat-trick to fire his side to the win.

Bamford has long been a striker who has had the potential to make it at the top level, but like so many who come before him, he just does not seem to have had the right sort of break in the Premier League.

However, last night we saw the Bamford of old, the Bamford who in his first spell with Middlesbrough and then with Derby lit up the Championship with both his goals and his overall performances. This form led to him being given the Championship player of the year award, and last night it looked like he might be back to that form.

If Bamford can continue to press on and score the goals, showing the ruthless sort of finishing he did last night, then it could well be that he gets his big chance under Pulis next term in the Premier League.

It would be a great shame to see such a player never succeed in the top flight, but with showings like last night, there has to be some renewed hope that he can indeed become top dog.

Boro fans, what do you think? Is Bamford the man to fire you to promotion? Let us know in the comments!
