Birmingham City boss Harry Redknapp has always been known for his honesty and transparency in regard to transfer targets, with the former Tottenham boss always keen to talk to the Press about his latest targets and the progress of any potential deal.

However, has the 70-year-old taken it too far this summer?

Hardly a day goes by when reports emerge of Redknapp talking up a potential move for rival players, and the double pursuit of Bristol City pair Aden Flint and Joe Bryan is the latest in a long line of well publicised chases.

Redknapp is obviously not in this division to make friends, and will undoubtedly have upset many of his fellow Championship bosses with his words, who will feel the Birmingham manager is unsettling their star players with talk of potential moves.

It is refreshing from a fan’s perspective to be provided with regular updates in this world of secretive transfer activity, and Redknapp cannot be faulted for being open with Blues fans this summer.

However, constantly driving speculation surrounding potential transfer targets could be considered unethical, and Redknapp should perhaps consider keeping his cards a little closer to his chest in the future.

It could all be a game to Redknapp as he attempts to secure his top transfer targets, or it could just be that the experienced gaffer, in his ageing years, feels there is no need to hide things from his own fans.

However being so open does have its drawbacks, and when deals do not come off despite being played up to the Press, embarrassment can certainly set in.

Redknapp will not change his methods so late in his career however, and to be fair, I certainly find my job easier when Harry tells me exactly who he is after!
