Preston North End have rejected a bid from Harry Redknapp's Birmingham City of £2.5m for last season's top scorer Jordan Hugill, according to HITC.

Hugill hit 13 goals in 47 appearances across all competitions, to top the scoring charts at Deepdale, which has attracted the attention of the former Tottenham Hotspur manager.

The report suggests that Redknapp is not the only one with designs on securing the signature of the 25-year-old hitman, with free-spending Wolverhampton Wanderers as well as their former manager Mick McCarthy, now in charge of Ipswich Town also both thought to be keen on signing the striker.

Hugill's former Preston manager Simon Grayson is another who is believed to want to sign him, adding him to his Sunderland frontline as they seek to replace the goals lost by Jermain Defoe's free transfer to Bournemouth.

Birmingham fans reacted to the news of their bid for Hugill and its subsequent rejection fairly indifferently.

There is certainly not a strong feeling among the St Andrew's faithful that Hugill is definitely the man to fire the goals to make a promotion push under the stewardship of veteran manager Harry Redknapp.
