Hull City began their season with a wonderful away point at Aston Villa, and Leonid Slutsky’s men will hope to capture their first win of the new campaign when they entertain Burton Albion at the KCOM Stadium.

The Tigers will earmark the fixture as a winnable game, but will have to be at their best against a side coming into the game on the back of a home defeat to Cardiff City.

Slutsky has made no secret of the fact that his side is not quite ready yet, and that several new faces can be expected before the transfer window slams shut in the coming weeks.

Having almost tied up a deal for Leicester City’s, Ahmed Musa, Slutsky has now turned his attentions the other way to League One, and has reportedly submitted an offer in the region of £1 million for Oxford winger, Marvin Johnson.

The former Motherwell winger bounced around non-league football before moving north of the border, and was picked up by Oxford just last season as they began life in the third tier.

Manager Pep Clotet will be keen to keep the player on the books at the Kassam Stadium as his side chase a promotion of their own, and chairman Darryl Eales has confirmed in recent days that the player is simply not for sale.

However, every man has his price, and with Johnson surely keen to move to the Championship to work under Slutsky on Humberside, Eales may have to accept that his man could be on the way out.

Forking out over a million on a player with very little experience of league football could be considered a risk, and although the 26-year-old did well for the U’s last year, he was by no means sensational.

Fans may wonder why their side are targeting the player for their promotion push, and if a move were to materialise, Johnson would have a lot to do to prove that he is good enough for this level of football.

Time will tell as to whether a deal is struck, but Hull could certainly find more suitable targets in their pursuit of an instant return to the top flight.
