Aston Villa returned to winning ways in the Sky Bet Championship yesterday, with Steve Bruce’s side recording an impressive victory against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

The Villans came from 2-1 behind to record a 4-2 victory, which moved Bruce’s side back within touching distance of the top-two and put the pressure on Cardiff City ahead of today’s clash with Bristol City.

Sean Clare and Lucas Joao had twice put Wednesday ahead, with Lewis Grabban’s second Villa goal sandwiched between the two.

Glenn Whelan pulled Villa level, before Conor Hourihane and Robert Snodgrass secured all three points for Bruce’s side late in the game, much to the delight of a sold out away end.

Whelan, who was returning to the starting XI, bagged his first goal in claret and blue yesterday, proving a lot of his Villa Park doubters wrong after a solid performance in South Yorkshire.
