Ipswich Town Academy Player of the Year Kyle Hammond has signed a one-year contract with the Suffolk club.
The 18-year-old full back was offered a deal earlier in the season, but it has taken until this week for it to become official after Hammond ruptured his cruciate ligament back in March. Despite signing the contract, that injury is likely to keep the youngster on the sidelines until the end of 2014.
Speaking to the club website, Hammond said: “Ipswich is my boyhood team and it really is a dream come true to sign a pro deal here.
“I’m very happy to sign and it’s come off the back of a difficult season, due to all my injuries. Although it’s been a frustrating season with my injury setbacks, it’s also been pleasing to be rewarded with the Academy Player of the Year award”, the youngster continued.
Hammond was involved heavily in Ipswich’s preseason of the 2013/14 season, and was on the bench in their 2-0 defeat to Stevenage in the League Cup, but has yet to make an appearance for the first team.
