Ipswich Town captain Luke Chambers has insisted that there is extra pressure on Wycombe Wanderers ahead of tonight's top-of-the-table clash between the two sides in League One.

Going into the clash at Portman Road, Ipswich are currently second in the table, five points behind Wycombe - although they currently have two games in hand on the league leaders.

Wycombe are absolutely flying at the moment - they're unbeaten in their last ten league matches and have won their last four. Ipswich have also been very strong all season and have won ten of their opening 16 league matches.

Even though we're still relatively early into the season, it's a big game and a chance for both teams to continue their momentum in the race for promotion.

Ahead of the clash, Ipswich skipper Chambers has insisted that there is extra pressure on Wycombe going into the match as they are the league leaders.

Speaking to the East Anglian Daily Times, the defender also admitted that he cannot wait for the top-of-the-table clash under the lights at Portman Road.

He said: "There is a little bit extra pressure on this game, but probably more so on them at the minute because they are the ones who find themselves at the top of the league. We'll see how they deal with it.

"As I said, the pressure is potentially more on them than it is us. We'll be backed by another 20,000 that have been fantastic for us. It's one we're definitely looking forward to and I can't wait to get out there."

The Verdict

We're still relativity early into the season, so realistically, both teams can afford to lose this match and will still have time to recover. However, it's still an important game in the promotion race and one that both teams will want to win.

I actually agree with Chambers here. Ipswich were expected to challenge for automatic promotion this season, but it's fair to say that not too many people expected Wycombe to be where they are in the table at the moment.

I think there probably is a bit of extra pressure on Wycombe going into this game as they're the league leaders and it'll be interesting to see if they can handle that.

This game is an opportunity for them to continue their momentum and a chance to send a big statement to their opponents and the rest of the promotion contenders.
