Ipswich Town defender Harry Clarke has labelled his first match back at Portman Road as "a perfect return".

The 21-year-old rejoined his boyhood club earlier this month after nearly eight years away - signing on a permanent deal from Arsenal after being recalled from a loan spell at Championship side Stoke City.

Clarke came off the bench for the final five minutes of the 2-1 defeat away to Oxford United in League One on the weekend but made his starting debut at Portman Road on Tuesday night.

The former Tractor Boys academy player started at centre-back and helped Kieran McKenna's side keep a clean sheet as they thrashed Morecambe 4-0.

Clarke took to Twitter after the game to offer a three-word verdict on his return to Portman Road.

Ipswich's victory cuts the gap on the top two to four points but second-place Sheffield Wednesday do have a game in hand over them.

The Tractor Boys change focus this weekend, however, as they host Championship leaders Burnley at Portman Road in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The Verdict

Clarke re-introduced himself to the Ipswich home support in impressive style on Tuesday as he helped them get back to winning ways in style.

It's early days, of course, but the 21-year-old looks like an impressive addition and a bright prospect.

Having been born in Ipswich, started his career in the academy and then jumped at the chance to return to Portman Road, you have to think he'll quickly become a very popular figure among supporters.

He certainly appears to be enjoying himself already - as this message shows.
