Championship side Ipswich Town’s loanee star Callum Connolly has stated that he hopes his year long stint with the club will help him develop more than if he would have stayed at Everton.

The 19-year-old right-back, who joined the club on a season-long loan with just hours of the transfer window remaining, spent the second half of last season on loan at Wigan as the Latics suffered relegation into League One.

In his interview on the club’s official website, Connolly said:

"Everton wanted me to go out on loan to develop as a player and as a man. It will be tough moving away from my family for a while but I want to stake a claim in the team and help move the Club in the right direction."

The youngster’s debut could come as early as this weekend where Ipswich go to Loftus Road to take on QPR.

The Verdict

There is no doubt that this loan move will benefit the player more than playing for Everton’s under-23s.

Connolly will need to prove himself to break into the first team at Ipswich but once that happens, the first team football will really help him find his feet and find his level in terms of his abilities in the big time.

It’s a win-win.

Ipswich get a promising young player with a point to prove, at Callum Connolly gets the opportunity to prove that point.
