Ipswich Town are interested in signing Sheffield United forward Conor Washington in the summer, according to reports from the East Anglian Daily Times.

The Northern Ireland international has endured a tricky couple of years in the Championship but is believed to be on Paul Lambert's radar ahead of the Tractor Boys' League One campaign.

Washington's last spell in League One came with Peterborough United, where he scored 27 goals in 64 starts for the club before moving to Queens Park Rangers in 2016, for a reported fee of £2.8million.

But the 26-year-old endured a difficult time at Loftus Road, netting just 14 times in a total of 98 appearances before moving to Sheffield United last summer.

The powerful forward has since failed to make an impact at Bramall Lane, failing to find the back of the net in a total of 16 appearances for Chris Wilder's men.

And, with the Blades preparing for life in the Premier League next season, it is believed that Ipswich will look to sign the striker when his deal expires in Yorkshire at the end of the season.

Ipswich ended their season on a high last weekend, as they defeated Leeds United by three goals to two at Portman Road - they finished the season sitting rock bottom of the Sky Bet Championship table, winning just five league games all season.

The Verdict

Despite a difficult couple of years, I actually think Washington would be a good signing for Ipswich.

I don't think a move to Sheffield United did him any good, as he was quite frankly out of his depth.

But you get the feeling that he would be a fantastic striker at League One level, and on a free transfer, it is more than worth. the risk
