Ipswich Town should make a move for this unwanted Norwich City man

Norwich City’s performances in the Sky Bet Championship came as a surprise to everyone, and having been early season favourites for promotion, it was a shock to see the Canaries limp to an eighth-placed finish.

The powers above at Carrow Road were obviously frustrated with the performance, sacking Alex Neil in March and appointing Stuart Webber as Sporting Director a month later, in a bid to plan for a better future.

Plans for the 2017/18 campaign are underway, with Norwich announcing the departure of seven first-team players earlier this month and more reports suggesting players like Steven Naismith and Graham Dorrans will also be leaving Carrow Road this summer.

Both Naismith and Dorrans will attract attention from the Championship during the transfer window, and one club that could be interested in the latter is Norwich’s biggest rivals, Ipswich Town.

Mick McCarthy’s side have had a disappointing year in the Championship themselves, finishing with just 55-points in 16th place, well below where many would expect a team to finish under the leadership of such an experienced manager.

Improvements will be needed next season at Portman Road, with that will come player recruitment and the unwanted Dorrans would offer a lot to a deflated Ipswich side.

Dorrans has plenty of experience in English football, and at just 30, the midfielder can still offer a lot in the Championship if given the opportunity.

The Scottish international has made 24 appearances for Norwich this season, scoring six goals and proving to be the perfect partner alongside Jonny Howson in central midfield.

McCarthy will be looking to improve Ipswich’s fortunes next season and he must add quality players to do that.

With Dorrans reportedly available from Norwich, the 30-year old could be the perfect man to bring some experience and creativity to the spine of McCarthy’s Ipswich side.
