Ipswich Town had a desperately underwhelming season last time out and they will be hoping for major improvements.

Despite having less financial muscle to flex in comparison with their Championship rivals, Ipswich will be looking for some shrewd deals over the summer to strengthen their squad.

The Tractor Boys will severely miss Tom Lawrence, though.

Tom Lawrence was on loan from Leicester City last year and the Wales international lit up Portman Road in gloomy times with a number of exciting displays across the attacking midfield regions and a handful of stunning long range strikes too.

Replacing Lawrence will be tough and Ipswich have a dearth of attacking midfield talent on their books at the moment.

One place that Mick McCarthy could look is the loan market and a move for Sunderland winger Lynden Gooch might prove to be a top piece of business.

Ipswich might be able to convince Sunderland to loan Gooch out for a year; the American midfielder is on the fringes of their first team squad and would benefit from some regular playing time.

Depending on who Sunderland sell and buy, the 21-year-old might be allowed to move to another Championship squad on loan.

The twice-capped United States of America international can play on either wing or as a central midfielder.

This versatility makes him a useful asset to have and the youngster would certainly provide quality in this area.

Gooch now has some Premier League experience under his belt and his development could thrive in an environment like Ipswich, where he would get plenty of match time.
