The summer is fast approaching, with Ipswich Town one Sky Bet Championship club facing a huge couple of months ahead of the new season.

Mick McCarthy’s replacement is still to be found, whilst Ipswich also need to be active in the summer transfer window, as they look to improve a squad that is set to finish mid-table in the Championship.

Depending on Ipswich’s budget, their new manager might be forced to turn to the lower leagues to source new players, with Stevenage’s Danny Newton a standout.

We take a look at the 27-year-old forward in our latest FLW Spotlight:

During his first year in the Football League, Newton has bagged himself 14 goals in his 44 appearances, adding a further seven assists for Stevenage, who sit 15th in the League Two table.

The 27-year-old has scored a goal every 227.6 minutes he has played.

An area that Newton needs to work on is certainly his discipline, with six yellow cards to his name and the forward conceding 107 fouls over the course of the 2017/18 campaign.

The Verdict

McCarthy worked on a budget at Ipswich and it is likely that his replacement will not be handed big money to spend.

If Ipswich are forced to turn to the lower leagues to improve their squad, Newton is certainly somebody they will consider after 14 goals this season.

After an impressive first season in the Football League, the former Jamie Vardy academy prospect could potentially take the step up to the Championship.

It might be seen as a risk in the Championship, but if Newton can have any sort of impact like his former mentor, he would be a shrewd addition at Ipswich.
