Newly relegated Ipswich Town are set to sign Gillingham goalkeeper Tomas Holy, according to a report by the Mirror.

The 27-year-old giant has been a regular for the Gills all season but will reportedly move away from the club as Ipswich manager Paul Lambert makes moves to rebuild his club following their relegation from the Championship this season.

The Tractor Boys are set to sell goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkkowski due to his wages at Portman Road, and Lambert has clearly seen Holy as the ideal replacement for the impressive Bialkowski, who has become quite the favourite for Ipswich during his time with the East Anglian club.

At 6ft 9, the Polish stopper is one of the giants of football and has been in impressive form for Gillingham, forging a fine reputation for himself at Priestfields, something which has clearly caught the eye of Ipswich manager Lambert.

Holy was a surprise signing for the Gills back in 2017 when he made the move into English football following spells with the likes of Fastav Zlin and AC Sparta Prague B.

The giant goalkeeper has gone from strength to strength since sealing his move to England, and he will no doubt be delighted to join a club like Ipswich, who will be keen to bounce back to the Championship at the first attempt following a dismal year this time out.

The Verdict

This is a good solid signing for Ipswich and instantly sorts a problem position for Lambert heading into the summer.

Holy has proven himself in the lower leagues and he can only go on to improve at Portman Road. At 27, he still has his prime ahead of him, and the big Polish star will be a welcome addition at Priestfields.
