Ipswich Town are confident that a broken wrist picked up by Alan Judge on international duty won't impact his pre-season too much.

The 30-year-old has been away with Ireland for the international break and came on to make a positive impact as Mick McCarthy's side drew with Denmark last time out as he set up Shane Duffy's equaliser.

However, the night ended badly for Judge as he suffered a broken wrist, which has obviously ruled him out of tonight's game against Gibraltar.

And, it sparked fears that he could be set for a lengthy lay-off, but Tractor Boys physio Matt Byard issued a positive verdict when speaking to the official site on a potential return for the attacking midfielder.

"We are hoping his injury won’t have too much impact on pre-season for Judgey. It’s likely that he will have to avoid contact for the first few weeks but we will see how it goes."

After joining on a short-term deal in January, the former Brentford man signed a two-year deal at Portman Road in April and will be a key player for Paul Lambert's men in League One.

The Verdict

This will be a big relief for Lambert and Ipswich fans as Judge is a classy player and will be crucial to the side next season.

From his perspective it's great news too, as pre-season is vital for all professionals and he will want to ensure he goes into the new campaign ready to make an impact.

Ipswich are sure to monitor Judge over the coming weeks and they won't be taking any risky anyway.
