Ipswich are aiming to do the majority of their transfer business early it seems, with Middlesbrough duo, Grant Leadbitter and Rudy Gestede being amongst their top targets according to TEAMtalk.

Paul Lambert's side are in need of additional quality this season and the pair would be the ideal signing that Ipswich need for the remainder of this year's campaign.

Both Leadbitter and Gestede have fallen out of favour under Tony Pulis and it seems as though their future will lie elsewhere in the near future.

Leadbitter has made just two appearances for Boro at the start of the season and hasn't featured since and he could be tempted by a return to Ipswich after leaving them to join Middlesbrough in 2012.

Whilst Gestede has made just four appearances for Pulis' side, and he is far too good of an option to have sitting on the substitutes bench this season.

Middlesbrough are also keen on signing Ipswich defender, Jonas Knudsen, and a deal has been discussed over a potential swap deal.

Pulis is hoping to move a number of high-earners at the club this month as they look to balance the books for the remainder of the season.

Ipswich are in desperate need of new signings, as they currently sit bottom of the Championship table, and they are an alarming ten points adrift at the foot of the table.

It remains to be seen as to whether the deal for Leadbitter and Gestede will be either a permanent one or a loan deal, but Paul Lambert will be hoping to convince the pair to join him at Portman Road.

The Verdict:

This would be an excellent bit of business by Ipswich.

Both Leadbitter and Gestede are out of favour at Middlesbrough and they are surely likely to be eyeing a move elsewhere, which Ipswich seem to be capitalising on.

The pair could be exactly what Ipswich are missing and could fire them out of the bottom three, which seems a tough ask with the Tractor Boys currently sat bottom of the table.
