Ipswich Town have added another attacking option to their ranks this month - but not by signing anyone.

Instead, the Tractor Boys have recalled Tyreece Simpson from his loan spell at Swindon Town and the forward could certainly play a part for his parent side in the second half of the season if he isn't sent out again before the close of the transfer window.

If he can produce the goods in League One to the same level as he did a league lower during his loan spell, then there is every chance that he could be of use to Kieran McKenna for the rest of the campaign.

The 19-year-old managed to plunder a total of nine goals and two assists in 25 games - giving him a solid return of 0.46 goals or assists per 90 on average.

Now, despite previously having only ever played for the Tractor Boys on four previous occasions, he has been recalled to Portman Road from Swindon - and in a message on his Twitter, he admitted that it is 'not how it planned out to be' and that the side will always hold a place in his heart.

Swindon are currently in the middle of a push for promotion and are sat in sixth place in League Two. However, they only hold a play-off spot by one point and a few losses could see them drop out of the running.

They'll now need to replace the goals of Simpson too - and they now have just a week to do it.

The Verdict

Tyreece Simpson has been prolific at League Two level and has proven to be a solid option for Swindon this season. At a time when it seemed like the club would struggle, they have instead thrived and pushed on towards the top of League Two.

Part of the reason has been the contribution in front of goal of Simpson. As one of their highest contributors of goals this season, his absence will be felt and it will be a real blow to Swindon at this part of the season too.

It's left the fourth tier outfit needing to add another striker to their ranks - whether on another short-term deal or on a permanent basis - and with not many affordable options out there it might be a difficult task for the club. If they can find someone though, then there is every chance they could challenge at the top still.

As for Simpson, he won't be content with sitting on the bench every week now. Unless Ipswich can guarantee him some more action at Portman Road for the rest of the season, he may end up back out on loan elsewhere again.
