Bartosz Bialkowksi could still be at Ipswich at the start of the season after his proposed move to Millwall fell through, according to the East Anglian Daily Times.

The Polish goalkeeper has been at the centre of much transfer speculation this summer, and underwent a medical at Millwall last week after the clubs reportedly agreed a fee of £1.5m.

However, the medical didn't go according to plan and now the deal is off, possibly due to Millwall finding a fault with the players' fitness.

The 31-year-old arrived to training yesterday as normal, leading to speculation that there could be a breakdown in the deal. Only today, Paul Lambert spoke to the Ipswich media team Lambert, saying: “Bart has been a great pro since I’ve been here and he was great yesterday. He’s our player until anyone tells me differently.

"I know Millwall were interested and everything that's going on. Other than that I don't know."

We now know that there was an issue with the deal, which is why Bialkowski is still training with Ipswich.

He has been a key player for The Tractor Boys since signing in 2014 and fans would be sad to see him go. It is positive for them that this deal has fallen through, but that doesn't mean there won't be interest in him from elsewhere.

The Verdict

It is surprising to see him fail a medical when he seemed fit and raring to go. It is a blow for Millwall as they looked set to pick up a proven Championship quality keeper for a relatively small fee.

It is a bonus for Ipswich however, as a failed medical could deter other clubs taking an interest. Bialkowski is 31 and if he has a fitness issue it could be difficult to overcome - and no team wants to spend millions on a player who is unable to play for most of the season.

That said, it would still be a surprise to see him stay at Ipswich for the foreseeable future.
