Ipswich Town's Luke Garbutt has revealed he is enjoying life as a wing-back under Paul Lambert after his impressive start to the season with the Tractor Boys.

The Suffolk outfit lead the way in League One after 11 games and the on-loan Everton man has played a key part even though he has only featured in five games.

However, he has scored three goals in that time, including a winner on the opening day at Burton as well as a stunning free-kick more recently against Tranmere.

Used predominantly as a wing-back under the Scottish boss, Garbutt told the club's media that he feels the position allows him to show his undoubted quality going forward.

"I’ve played wing-back a bit previously, it suits my attacking game here the way the manager plays."

Given he has starred in Ipswich's last two wins prior to the international break, the 26-year-old will hope to keep his place in the XI ahead of the weekend trip to Accrington, where Lambert's men will be looking to extend their unbeaten run in the league.

The verdict

Garbutt has impressed when he has been given a chance this season and there's no doubt that the wing-back position does suit his game.

There had been doubts about his defensive ability but he is great getting forward and has a classy left-foot so he looks like a smart addition to the team.

He will hope for another start on Sunday as he looks to cement a place in the XI moving forward.
