Ipswich Town are looking into signing experienced former West Ham defender James Collins, according to a report by Bristol Live.

The Welsh international is out of contract after being released by the Hammers and is surprsingly still without a club following the closure of the transfer window.

However, clubs can still sign free agents, and Collins is high on the agenda for Tractor Boys manager Paul Hurst and the Ipswich gaffer will be hoping to land the experienced centre half in the coming weeks.

Collins has a tremendous amount of experience in the bank following a career which has taken in spells at Cardiff, Aston Villa, and twice at West Ham, where he made in excess of 200 appearances and will go down as something of a Hammers legend.

Ipswich are looking to add strength to their squad to prevent another repeat of last season as they struggled for any sort of form, ultimately parting company with manager Mick McCarthy as a result.

Collins has over 50 caps for his country and would no doubt be solid additon to an Ipswich team which has plenty of young talent in and around the squad.
