Ipswich Town are interested in making a potential move for Newcastle United defender Jamie Sterry this month, according to the Newcastle Chronicle.

Ipswich have suffered problems at right-back over the last few months, with summer signing Kane Vincent-Young having out through injury, which has seen Paul Lambert use both Janoi Doncacien and Gwoin Edwards at times at right-back or right-wing-back.

The Tractor Boys have gone eight League One matches without a win in absence of Vincent-Young, which suggests that Lambert needs to potentially invest in a new right-back this month, to help the Tractor Boys get back to the sort of solidity that showed at the beginning of the campaign.

What club did each of these 16 Ipswich Town players sign from?

Sterry has found himself way down the pecking order at Newcastle this season, having not even been handed a squad number by the club at the start of the campaign, and the 24-year-old has been limited to making just a handful of appearances for the club’s under23s in the Leasing.com Trophy.

The verdict

Ipswich certainly need to improve their immediate options down the right-hand side of their defecne, with Lambert’s side clearly missing the presence of Vincent-Young, and a move for Sterry would unlikely prove costly for the Tractor Boys this month given he is well down the pecking order at Newcastle.

The 24-year-old is out of contract in the summer, and he will be eager to go out and get some regular first team football this month to start to build some momentum in his career, which means the right-back would likely be open to moving to Ipswich this month.

However, with the defender having played very limited first team minutes this season, it would be something of a risk to bring him in to Ipswich and expect him to perform instantly to a consistent level.
