Ipswich Town have been linked with Wigan Athletic striker Marc-Antoine Fortune, according to Independent Ipswich Town.

The striker has only scored twice in 19 appearances this season, the latter coming in October last year.

Town have been in the market for a new striker. They signed Noel Hunt on a free transfer after his contract was cancelled by Leeds United, and he managed to score twice on his debut.

They’ve also been linked with a loan move for Leeds United striker Billy Sharp, who’s frustration is growing over the lack of first team football he is receiving. He came on as a substitute against AFC Bournemouth last night in a 1-0 victory for United.

Fortune started his career in France with Angoulême and first came to England in 2009, signing for West Bromwich Albion on loan from AS Nancy, where he scored five in 17.

He moved to Celtic a year later for £3.8 million and in his only season in Scotland he made a total of 32 appearances scoring 10 goals.

He signed for Wigan Athletic in 2013 and has only scored five goals for the club since signing.

Billy Sharp would probably be the preferred option for Ipswich, as he has a far better goal scoring record at a younger age.

The Tractorboys beat strugglers Millwall over the weekend 3-1, a brace from debutant Noel Hunt and a goal from Jonathan Parr took them up into the automatic places

A 2-1 win for Middlesbrough over Cardiff City last night means that they are no longer in the automatic places.

They’re now in third place having accumulated 50 points during this season.
