Ipswich Town are set to sign Hayden Coulson from Middlesbrough.

Coulson is set to depart the Riverside Stadium this summer and, despite interest from Sunderland and Luton Town, TEAMtalk are reporting that it will be Ipswich that land his signature as they continue an impressive summer of business.

Paul Cook is preparing for his first full season in-charge at Portman Road, with the task of inspiring Ipswich towards a promotion push that they've failed to deliver across two seasons in League Two.

The Tractor Boys have already signed the likes of Joe Pigott and Rekeem Harper this summer, with Coulson set to be another coup this summer for Cook.

As per TEAMtalk, the 23-year-old will arrive from Middlesbrough, with Neil Warnock open to moving out the versatile left-sided player.

Coulson was an impressive outlet during Jonathan Woodgate's season in-charge of Boro, with the youngster featuring at left-back and on the left of midfield. He totalled 29 appearances in the Championship in 2019/20, but saw his game-time shrink significantly following Warnock's appointment.

Last year, Coulson made 17 league appearances, but only five starts in the Championship as Boro flirted with challenging for the play-offs.

Warnock has now given his exit the green-light as he looks to go one better in 2021/22.

The Verdict

This is another big sign of intent coming out of Ipswich this summer.

Cook has been bullish with his summer business so far, pulling the trigger on a host of players and bringing in his own men.

Plenty of those signings have been ambitious too, with Coulson no different.

The left-back has had a rough ride at Boro, but he's got undoubted quality. He should be able to express himself in League One under a manager that wants him.
