Sky Bet Championship side Ipswich Town are close to completing a short-term deal for Brentford playmaker Alan Judge, according to reports from Sky Sports.

The 30-year-old has been a fantastic player for the Bees since joining from Blackburn Rovers in January 2014, and played an integral role in the West London side's promotion from League One in 2013/14.

But, despite making a total of over 140 appearances for the Bees, he is currently undergoing a medical at Portman Road ahead of a move to the struggling Tractor Boys, with just six months left on his current contract at Griffin Park.

The Irishman has been unlucky with injuries over the past couple of years, and it is in fact at Portman Road where the attacking midfielder sustained a terrible leg-break in 2016, that ruled him out for a year and nine months.

Now, the five-time Republic of Ireland international now looks set to complete a move to Suffolk to help Ipswich fight their way out of the relegation zone - Paul Lambert's men picked up an invaluable three points against Rotherham United at the weekend, only their third league win of the season.

They currently sit rock-bottom of the Sky Bet Championship table, seven points adrift of safety.

The Verdict

If you can get him back to full fitness, Judge has the ability to be one of the best players in the league, so what a signing this would be for Ipswich.

He'd fit right into the attacking midfield role at Portman Road, and he'd definitely be a huge boost in their bid for survival.

This is a masterstroke from Lambert.
