Ipswich Town are weighing up a move for Dundalk centre-back Andy Boyle, according to HITC Sport.

The newly-capped Republic of Ireland defender has been an ever present figure in Dundalk's Europa League campaign this season, and is expected to feature once again this evening in his club's latest clash with Zenit St Petersburg.

However, Dundalk face a struggle to keep hold of his services as Boyle's contract expires in December- and Ipswich have joined Championship rivals Barnsley in the race for the defender's signature.

The Tractor Boys' defence has been relatively strong this season but Ipswich have struggled in the Championship, currently sitting 16th with just four wins to their name from 15 fixtures.

Whilst interest in the soon to be free agent may rise, Ipswich will fancy their chances of winning the race for Boyle's services as the 25-year-old may be tempted to link-up with former Ireland boss Mick McCarthy.

McCarthy managed his national side for six years between 1996 and 2002, whilst he boasts a wealth of managerial experience at club-level having been in charge of Wolves, Millwall and Sunderland previously.
