Ipswich Town are set to make a permanent move for West Brom midfielder Rekeem Harper with the Tractor Boys thought to be closing in on securing a deal for him, according to TWTD.

Harper spent the second half of last season out on loan with Birmingham City in the Championship where he went on to make 18 appearances and played a part in helping the Blues secure their survival in the English second tier under Lee Bowyer.

The 21-year-old has never been able to fully establish himself within West Brom’s first team. He did manage to make 17 appearances for them during the 2018/19 campaign and then a further ten league appearances in 2019/20 as they secured promotion to the Premier League.

21 things every Ipswich Town fan should know about their club, so can you score 100% on this?

What year was Ipswich Town founded?

According to the latest report from TWTD, Ipswich are now close to securing the midfielder’s signature with the Tractor Boys being required to pay a fee of around £500,000 to land the 21-year-old.

It is thought that Paul Cook’s side should be able to meet that valuation and go on to to wrap a deal up for Harper.

The verdict

This would be an outstanding signing for League One level and it would be a major potential coup for the Tractor Boys if they are able to pull this move off this summer. Harper is a player with a lot of potential and it is perhaps a surprise that he does not have suitors that are prepared to give him a chance in the Championship considering he is available this summer.

Signing Harper would be a major sign of intent from Ipswich as they aim to build a more exciting squad that are capable of mounting a challenge for promotion to the Championship. You could see this being the first of a few marquee additions that they make during the transfer window, and it is looking all set up for a positive campaign for them.

Harper should be able to flourish at League One level and really showcase the potential he has shown glimpses of so far in his career at West Brom. Under Cook, you would expect to see him controlling games in the middle of the park and adding some real dynamism to their midfield. This is a signing to be excited about.
