Ipswich Town are closing in on the signing of Brighton goalkeeper Christian Walton, according to Football Insider.
Ipswich have endured a tough start to the League One season, and are yet to record their first win of the season despite being tipped as strong promotion contenders.
The club have made a whopping 16 new signings this summer, but their 17th addition of the window looks set to be on his way to Portman Road.
According to Football Insider, Brighton goalkeeper Christian Walton is undergoing a medical today as he looks to complete a move from the AMEX.
Walton had reportedly attracted interest from the likes of Norwich, Derby and Nottingham Forest this summer, but Ipswich have had a bid accepted by the Seagulls.
Walton is no stranger to Paul Cook, either. The 25-year-old spent the 2017/18 campaign on loan at Wigan, keeping 19 clean sheets in League One to help Cook’s side win promotion.
The goalkeeper leaves Brighton having made only six senior appearances for the club, and will now look to help Ipswich win promotion under Cook.
This is a bit of a surprising signing when you consider that Ipswich have already added to their goalkeeping options with the signing of Vaclav Hladky this summer.
Walton is at a good age though and has impressed out on loan throughout his career, especially during his time at Wigan with Cook.
Cook knows what he’s getting from Walton and it’s always important to trust your goalkeeper, therefore from that point of view, it’s a solid addition.
