Ipswich Town are set to appoint former Norwich boss Paul Lambert as their new manager following the dismissal of Paul Hurst.

Hurst was sacked this afternoon, leaving the club bottom of the league and on just nine points from their 14 Championship games this season.

His final game in charge came against Leeds United last night, where the Tractor Boys fell to a 2-0 defeat.

And, according to the Mirror, owner Marcus Evans wants Lambert to replace the 44-year-old.

That was supported by East Anglian Daily Times reporter Stuart Watson, who revealed on twitter that Lambert was 'set to be announced as his replacement'.

That would be a very brave move considering the Scotsman spent three years at Carrow Road, which included winning back-to-back promotions.

As well as that, Lambert's Canaries side recorded some big victories against their bitter rivals during that successful period for the club.

However, he is a manager who has a lot of experience in the Championship, having also worked at Blackburn and Wolves.

Lambert's most recent job came at Stoke City, where he took over from Mark Hughes towards the end of last season. He was unable to prevent the side from dropping to the Championship.

The Verdict

This is not an appointment that would go down well with Ipswich fans and you can understand why as they will remember Lambert from his time at Norwich.

Whether he would be a good appointment is a different debate altogether, though, as he has shown that he can be a useful boss at this level, even if his most recent roles have been pretty poor.

Either way, Evans needs to do what's right for Ipswich in terms of keeping them up and this would be a bold, brave move that would have to pay off.
