According to the Glasgow Evening Times, Joe Garner is close to completing a move from Rangers to Ipswich Town, and has already undergone a medical at Portman Road, after the two clubs agreed a fee for the striker.

Garner made the move from the Sky Bet Championship to the Scottish Premiership last summer, turning his back on Preston North End for a chance to link-up with Rangers on their return to the top-flight.

However, after just 12-months, Garner is set to return to the Championship, with Ipswich close to securing a deal, worth a reported £750k, for the 29-year old striker.

Garner struggled for form in Scotland, making 34 appearances and scoring just ten goals for the Gers, despite arriving at Ibrox with an excellent goalscoring record from his time at Deepdale with Preston.

Ipswich and Mick McCarthy will be confident if Garner can rediscover the form he showed for Preston, then the 29-year old will be an excellent recruit ahead of the 2017/18 Championship season.

During his three-and-a-half seasons with North End, Garner scored 57 goals for the Lilywhites, including 27 during the 2014/15 campaign, as Preston won promotion to the Championship through the League One play-offs.

Garner’s last full season in the Championship brought just six goals.
