Ipswich Town have completed the signing of Alan Judge on a short-term deal, with Paul Lambert making his sixth signing of the January transfer window.

An announcement has come late on Monday evening from Ipswich’s official website, confirming the arrival of Judge from Brentford.

The Irish playmaker has agreed a deal with the Tractor Boys until the end of the season, with the Championship strugglers having the option to extend that by a further 12 months in the summer.

Judge has had spells across the EFL over the course of his career, but really made a name for himself at Griffin Park, helping the Bees over the line in the race for promotion in League One during the 2013/14 campaign.

From there, the Championship became easy work for the now 30-year-old, as he registered 13 assists and scored three goals to help the Bees secure play-off football in 2015.

The following year was the playmaker’s most prolific from his time with the Londoners, as he scored 14 goals and registered another 11 assists as Brentford went from strength-to-strength in the Championship.

A horrific leg-break in April 2016 led to a long-term absence, with Judge never recapturing his previous form.

20 Championship appearances have been made this season for the Bees, which have brought only one goal.

Town’s new No.31 has arrived for an undisclosed fee.

The Verdict

Judge has had a torrid couple of years and this fresh start is great news for the player, as regular games are surely now coming his way.

For Ipswich, this cold be excellent business as Lambert looks to help his side put up a fight at the wrong end of the table.

It’s been an abysmal season so far, but six January arrivals have been a statement and a sign that Ipswich will not be falling away quietly.

The 30-year-old could be the best of the bunch so far.
