Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has revealed that he is looking to enhance his squad with two or three new faces ahead of the new Sky Bet Championship season.

McCarthy is very happy to have signed up Murphy
McCarthy is not panicking

The Town boss denied panicking over an increasingly thinning back line, even though he conceded that young defender Matt Clarke is set to join League Two side Portsmouth on loan after playing for Pompey on trial against Coventry.

The former Republic of Ireland manager has previously reiterated that youngsters would be given a chance to back up the senior players, insisting that there is much more depth in his squad than there was last season.

McCarthy told the Club’s official website, ‘’I was talking to my PA, Fran, earlier today about this season’s team photo and we looked back at last year's. I’m happier where I am now, going into this season than I was this time last year but I’d like to add two or three new faces”.

The Blues have already signed striker Brett Pitman as well as wingers Ryan Fraser and Ainsley Maitland-Niles. At the back, ex-Cardiff City centre-back Josh Yorwerth was also brought in. They have also received a massive boost after top-scorer Daryl Murphy agreed to pen a new contract.

The Irish boss watched as Pitman and Maitland-Niles hit the target in yesterday’s 3-2 victory at Cambridge United, confirming that the 27-year-old had to be substituted after receiving a knock early in the second half.

The game was the last for the Town ahead of the new season. They will travel to West London for their opener against Brentford on 8 August.
