Ipswich Town and Oxford United are both battling it out to secure the signature of Oxford United left-back Jamie Robson this summer, according to the Scottish Sun.

Robson is a player in-demand this summer following his strong form for Dundee United in the Scottish Premier League last season. In total, the 23-year-old managed to make 36 league appearances in which he provided two assists and also helped his side record 12 clean sheets.

According to the Scottish Sun, Dundee United will cash in on the defender this summer if they do receive the right sort of offer for Robson amid the transfer interest in him.

Ipswich Town are believed to be interested in bringing the 23-year-old to Portman Road as Paul Cook continues his rebuild of the squad. It is thought that the Tractor Boys will still make a move for the left-back despite having had issues agreeing a fee with Dundee United for their goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist.

The Scottish Sun are also reporting that Oxford United are also in the hunt for Robson and that they are ready to rival Ipswich in the race to secure the 23-year-old this summer.

The Verdict

This has the makings of a smart signing for Ipswich or Oxford this summer with Robson a player with potential who has already managed to show some encouraging performance for Dundee United. The 23-year-old seems to be ready to make the move to another level and you could see him thriving in the third tier with either side next term if he departs Scotland.

Robson would be a good addition for Ipswich who need to improve their left-back options having allowed veteran defender Stephen Ward to leave the club. The 23-year-old would be able to provide a solid presence down the left-hand side of their defence having managed to average two tackles per game and won 5.5 duels per game last term.

Meanwhile, Oxford could also do with adding a new left-back to their squad following Josh Ruffels’ departure to Huddersfield Town. The 23-year-old would be an excellent replacement for him and it would be a coup for them to beat Ipswich to his signature.
