Ipswich Town are edging closer to completing the signing of Martyn Waghorn, according to reports.

According to The Daily Mail, Ipswich Town have had a bid accepted for Martyn Waghorn.

Rangers have accepted an offer from Ipswich Town which is believed to be in the region of £1m.

Waghorn, who is also a major target for Sunderland, is now closing in on a return to England.

The 27-year-old is now undergoing a medical at Ipswich Town ahead of his proposed move, according to an exclusive report by Football Insider.

Mick McCarthy has been looking to add some fire power to his attacking options and Martyn Waghorn has been identified as a potential target to fill that role.

If he joins the Tractor Boys, he would follow fellow striker Joe Garner (who scored on his debut) in leaving Ibrox to head to Portman Road this summer.

Waghorn has previously played in England with spells at Sunderland, Leicester City and Wigan Athletic, as well as loan spells at Charlton Athletic, Hull City and Millwall.

The versatile forward plays as a central striker predominantly but Rangers have used him as a winger more frequently.

The former England under-21 international only has a year left on his contract and Ipswich Town want to take advantage of that to land him on the cheap.

After scoring sixteen goals in the Scottish Premiership last season, Waghorn now looks set to join Ipswich rather than re-join his former club Sunderland.

With 44 goals in 78 games in total for Rangers, Waghorn is expected to pen an initial two year deal with Ipswich Town if he passes his medical.

The Verdict

Ipswich Town struggled to score goals last year and Martyn Waghorn knows where the back of the net is.

Alongside Joe Garner, this could be a smart double raid on Rangers by Mick McCarthy.

If Waghorn is confident and playing in his preferred role, then Ipswich Town will score the goals to fire them higher up the league table.
