Ipswich Town’s owners are yet to open contract talks with Jonas Knudsen, despite the defender admitting he is open to extending his stay at Portman Road.

Knudsen has been with Ipswich since the summer of 2015, with the 25-year-old making 126 Championship appearances for the club and a further seven across all other competitions.

Last year he missed just a handful of Championship fixtures, before representing Denmark at the World Cup in Russia.

However, his contract with Ipswich has ticked into its final 12 months, with Knudsen not yet approached by the club’s hierarchy about an extension.

In an extremely open interview with the club’s official website, Knudsen said: “I love to play here and I’ve loved being here ever since I arrived. The people have made me feel so welcome and I feel like Ipswich is another home for me now.

“The situation is the same, though. I haven’t heard from the owner and there’s nothing really to do until we start talking.

“If we come to an agreement then I’m absolutely ready to start a new deal here. Until then it’s just about playing - life isn’t always simple but I will do my best for this club as I always do.”

The majority of Knudsen’s appearances in an Ipswich shirt came under Mick McCarthy, but he has been a regular under Paul Hurst during the 2018/19 campaign.

Knudsen is yet to miss a fixture across all competitions, featuring in all six of Ipswich’s Championship fixtures.

Ipswich’s wait for a first victory under Hurst continues, though, with the club sat second bottom in the Championship table.

Tomorrow, Ipswich head to Hull City to take on another of the Championship’s struggling sides.

The Verdict

Knudsen has been so consistent during his time at Ipswich, and it is bizarre to hear about his contract situation.

You would’ve expected the owners to make contact with such a key part of the squad at Portman Road.

There will be hope that this honest interview sparks negotiations.
