Ipswich leading rivals Norwich in the race to sign Championship midfielder

The Sheffield Star understands that Cardiff City midfielder Tom Adeyemi is likely to leave on a free transfer this summer when his current deal runs out.

The powerful and energetic box-to-box central midfielder has spent the 2016/17 season on loan at Rotherham United, who finished rock bottom of the Championship.

Rotherham are keen to sign Adeyemi on a permanent deal and have made him a “really impressive offer”, reports The Sheffield Star.

However, the 25-year-old is attracting interest from a duo of Championship clubs and might prefer to stay in the second tier.

Ipswich Town reportedly lead the race for Adeyemi as they aim to bolster their squad ahead of next season.

But they face competition from East Anglian rivals Norwich City, who want to bring their former academy product back to Carrow Road.

Adeyemi made 17 senior appearances for the Canaries before joining Birmingham City in 2013.

He has since moved to Cardiff and had a loan spell with Leeds too.
