Ipswich interested in signing Premier League midfielder

According to reports, Ipswich Town are interested in bringing Newcastle United’s Jack Colback to Portman Road, after the midfielder has been frozen out by Rafa Benitez on Tyneside.

Jack Colback was informed by Rafa Benitez that he is free to leave the club, after becoming surplus to requirements in their Premier League campaign this year.

However, according to reports in the Mirror Jack Colback is skeptical of moving away from the Tyneside area after spending the most of his career in the region.

An old stomping ground for the Englishman, after being sent out on-loan to the Tractor Boys in 2009 and 2011 during his time at Sunderland.

Indeed, with the current injuries that the club are nursing in Colback’s suited position, this would be a worthy buy for Mick McCarthy.

The verdict

Colback would be a quality addition to the Ipswich ranks.

As well as filling in for current injuries to Teddy Bishop and Emyr Huws, the 28-year-old possesses the ability to challenge for a regular first-team place with a lot to prove after being frozen out for so long.

In a position that Mick McCarthy has struggled to find the correct partnership in, the addition of the midfielder could help sort that problem, with his defensive abilities and ball-playing skills helping to steady the ship.

Someone the Tractor Boys should definitely look to pursue.
