Ipswich Town are one of a number of clubs keen on signing prolific Exeter City striker Jayden Stockley, according to Sky Sports News.

Stockley is also wanted by Ipswich's Championship rivals Preston North End, as well as teams from the lower divisions.

League One side Sunderland are also in the hunt for the towering 6ft 3in striker but are understood to prefer Charlie Wyke of Bradford City.

Meanwhile, former Exeter manager Paul Tisdale wants to take Stockley to Milton Keynes Dons this summer, where he has already snapped up a number of his former players already this summer.

The 24-year-old joined the Grecians from Aberdeen last summer and scored 24 goals in 45 appearances to help his side to the League Two play-off final, where they were defeated by Coventry City.

The former Bournemouth centre-forward, who has had multiple spells out on loan in his career, is wanted by Ipswich as a possible replacement for Martyn Waghorn, who is close to signing for Derby County.

The Verdict

Stockley is big, strong and has a keen eye for goal, which makes him a top player in the lower leagues.

But I am not sure he is ready to step up two divisions and fill Waghorn's boots.

A move to League One would be the next best step in Stockley's career if he wants to push on.
