Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has admitted that his side can have no complaints after they were dumped out of the FA Cup by League Two Portsmouth, in the third round replay at Fratton Park on Tuesday night.
A much-changed Tractor Boys side lost 2-1 to Pompey to suffer a third consecutive defeat in a tie against a side ranked below them in the competition.
McCarthy expressed his disappointment that the players he selected for the replay failed to show what they were capable of, and accepted that Portsmouth deserved their place in round four.
He told the Town official website: “Maybe having so many players who have not played much football playing at the same time didn’t help.
“It’s not easy coming into a team when you have not played for a while but the players out there tonight are better than what they showed and that was disappointing, especially when so many of our fans have made the trip.
