Even though Sheffield United let a big opportunity slip as they lost at home to Bristol City at the weekend, it’s still been a fantastic season for the Blades.

Chris Wilder’s side are firmly in the hunt for a top two finish and even if they do fall short they will have a shot at promotion through the play-offs.

And, a key reason for their outstanding campaign has been skipper Billy Sharp – as our graphic shows.

The experienced striker has silenced any doubters by establishing himself as the main man at Bramall Lane with 23 goals in 35 games a remarkable return.

Unsurprisingly, that saw Sharp win a place in the Championship Team of the Year and he was also nominated for the Player of the Year award along with Teemu Pukki and Che Adams.

That really is a fantastic achievement for the 33-year-old who has enjoyed the season of his life.

Sharp has always been a goalscorer but he has exceeded his own high standards this season, with this comfortably his best return in the Championship.

When you combine that with the overall influence he has had on the team in terms of his leadership and how he leads the line and works off the ball, then this individual recognition is completely deserved.

Our graphic demonstrates those qualities that perhaps go unnoticed, with his decent pass success rate and the fact he wins fouls certainly going to be appreciated within the dressing room.

As a boyhood Blades fan there is nothing Sharp would want more than to get Sheffield United back to the Premier League, but landing this personal award could top off what has been a brilliant year.
