After a welcome break over the course of the weekend, Aston Villa return to Sky Bet Championship action this week, with Steve Bruce’s side travelling to Bramall Lane, where they will face fellow play-off hopefuls, Sheffield United.
Villa enter the contest on a good run of form, having recorded four consecutive victories, which has really tightened the club’s grip on a place in the top-six and given them hope of challenging for automatic promotion.
Bruce’s side recorded a 3-1 victory over Barnsley in their last Championship fixture, with Scott Hogan continuing his fine goalscoring form with a brace, as Conor Hourihane also joined him on the scoresheet.
Here at FLW, we take a look at the starting XI Bruce could select to face Sheffield United on Tuesday evening, starting with Sam Johnstone, who is almost certain to start in goal.
Ahead of him, Neil Taylor could well return at left-back, with the Welsh international coming in for £2.7m-rated Ahmed Elmohamady, with Alan Hutton switching to right-back – John Terry and James Chester are likely to continue their partnership in central defence.
Birkir Bjarnason has made a sensational return to the starting XI in recent weeks, and Bruce should definitely be starting the Icelandic midfielder ahead of the defence.
Slightly ahead of him should be Hourihane and Jack Grealish, whilst Albert Adomah and Robert Snodgrass will flank that duo in Bruce’s 4-1-4-1 formation.
With no other striking option brought in yet in the transfer window, Hogan will continue in attack.
