Queens Park Rangers have taken another step towards appointing their new manager by ruling out Gary Rowett from the list of possible candidates, report West London Sport.

The former Stoke City and Derby County boss was on the initial shortlist according to the report but the club have now decided not to interview him for the role.

Tim Sherwood remains the first-choice of club director Les Ferdinand with West London Sport saying that the job is "his to turn down," although Michael Appleton and Mark Warburton are both set to be interviewed for the role as well.

Steve McClaren was sacked as Rangers boss two weeks ago now with the club sliding ominously close to the relegation zone.

One win in 11 was enough for the board to act, with John Eustace taking temporary charge of proceedings at Loftus Road.

Since McClaren left, the club have lost 4-0 to Norwich City and picked up a point away to relegation threatened Millwall, leaving them in 18th place and six points clear of the drop zone.

The verdict

This is a good move from the Rs.

Rowett may well have a point to prove but at the end of the day, he would be coming to the club off the back of a shocking spell at Stoke, so why should he get the job?

However, offering Tim Sherwood the role seems even more reckless.
