Many Leeds fans would have been questioning who Marcelo Bielsa was targeting as first signing in January for Leeds when scouts were sent out to watch Benfica in action in Portugal.

But those questions have been answered as it has been revealed that the Leeds boss is chasing former Arsenal youngster Chris Willock when the transfer window reopens in January.

The former Arsenal youngster made the move to the Portuguese giants in June 2017 and has been a regular in the Benfica B side since arriving.

Willock is widely regarded as a potential future for England, having represented the country’s youth sides at every level between under-16s and under-20s.

He would provide good competition to the likes of Mateusz Klich and Samu Saiz in the Leeds midfield, which would certainly be vital if they are to maintain their promotion push this season.

Bielsa's side have been dealt a number of injury blows this season, so depth in the Leeds squad is crucial if they are to put up a fight with a potentially busy festive period edging ever closer.

If Willock is to arrive at Elland Road, then he would be an excellent signing for Bielsa's team and he would be confident of establishing himself in the starting XI for the Whites.

The Verdict:

Willock would certainly add firepower to an already impressive midfield for Marcelo Bielsa's side.

The youngster is likely to cost a considerable amount of money for a permanent deal, so the Leeds boss could be tempted to make a loan swoop for the former Arsenal youngster.

He would provide excellent depth in the Leeds team, which is needed with a large number of injuries already occurring this season, and with a busy festive period coming up, they need to stay in touch with the promotion chasing pack.
